Home Runs Power Trojans over Appalachian State
Â
BOONE, N.C.- With a season-high four home runs scattered throughout the game, Troy (21-17, 6-7 SBC) run-ruled the Mountaineers (13-19, 2-8) 13-3 in five innings in the first game of the day. Game two of the doubleheader was called in the fifth inning due to weather and will resume tomorrow at noon CT. Â
Â
Stephanie Snyder got the home run party started with her third long ball of the season in the first inning, scoring Logan Calhoun and Katie Webb who both got on with base hits.
Â
Another three runs came across for the Trojans in the second inning as two walks put runners on with just one out. Calhoun stepped up to the plate and hit her seventh double of the season, scoring Kaylee Hussey from second. A groundout from Madeline Porter put two outs on the board, but plated Taylor Corbett and Calhoun followed on a passed ball as Troy took a six-run lead.
Â
The momentum stayed on Troy's side as Erica Davis reached base on a fielder's choice as Kaylee Hussey stepped into the box and launched her fourth home run of the season, tying Katie Webb for the team-high, as Troy took an 8-0 lead.
Â
Troy did not give up a hit until the bottom of the third inning when the Mountaineers cut into Troy's lead with a two-run home run and back to back doubles, bringing their only three runs of the game across the plate.
Â
The fourth inning was the Trojans' only inning of the game that no runs came across, but they bounced back in the fifth plating five runs on five hits. Davis came through with Troy's third home run of the game. The bats stayed hot as Hussey got her second hit of the day, a single up the middle and Calhoun followed with a double, scoring one.
Â
The final home run of the game fell as Porter blasted one on the first pitch she saw, a three-run shot, giving Troy its final 13-3 lead. Appalachian State got a runner on with a walk in the home half of the inning, but a called strikeout ended the game in a run-rule victory after five innings.
