TROY, Ala. – The Sun Belt champion Troy football team officially wrapped its spring practice on Saturday with its annual T-Day Spring Game inside the newly renovated Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Troy defense (silver) came out on top over the offense (cardinal) to claim the Champions Dinner by a 47-33 margin.
Â
A T-Day record crowd witnessed a unique twist to the spring game as head coach Neal Brown and his staff mixed a variety of different team competitions along with live scrimmage action into Saturday's event.
Â
"Fun day here in Veterans Memorial Stadium, and I really enjoyed getting our guys back in here", Brown said. "Really the first time for our fans to really get a picture of what the new Vet is going to look like when we welcome Boise in here in the fall.
Â
"I thought there were some really good things today. I thought both quarterbacks had some high points and some low points, it's really evident that we have a lot of work to do between now and when Boise comes here," Brown said. "I feel confident that either Kaleb Barker or Sawyer Smith is capable to lead us and put us in a position to win a conference championship."
Â
With the sparkling North End Zone Facility and its towering video board serving as the backdrop for the festivities, the Trojans used 7-on-7 drills, 1-on-1 competitions between the two lines and even a special competition for the injured players.
Â
During the live scrimmage action Louisville transfer Traveon Samuel caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Kaleb Barker during the third quarter of action for the biggest offensive gain of the game. Defensively, linebackers Tron Folsom and Carlton Martial had big games for the Trojans with an interception each, while Martial also added a sack.
Â
Up Next: The 2018 season opener against Boise State is just 132 days away as the Broncos visit The Vet on Sept. 1. Troy is still awaiting a decision from ESPN on a game time and television network for the game.
Â
Buy Tickets, Get Some Bling: Season tickets are now on sale for the 2018 season at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Troy plays host to six home games during the 2018 campaign, including visits from Boise State, Georgia State and Louisiana. Season ticket packages start as low as $60 and all ticket prices are identical to those from 2017. Fans who renew or purchase their tickets by Friday, April 27, will receive numerous incentives including a replica Troy football Sun Belt championship ring.
