TROY, Ala. – With three weeks and 14 practices in the ledger, the Troy football team will put the finishing touches on its spring practice sessions with T-Day in Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. with pregame festivities beginning at 11:30 a.m.; admission is free.
Â
The game will also be broadcast live on Facebook (TroyAthletics) and the Troy Sports Radio Network will have full coverage beginning at 11:45 a.m. on WTBF 94.7 FM in Troy and online at TroyTrojans.com. Barry McKnight and Doug Amos will call the action from the press box while Chris Blackshear will have a wide variety of interviews on the field, including with players live on the sideline.
Â
"I think we've made a lot of progress through the 14 practices we've had," head coach Neal Brown said. "Probably more progress on an individual level than as offensive, defensive and special teams units because of the amount of guys that have been out. It has been frustrating, but I think it will help us long term as a program. A lot of guys who are probably a year away from playing have received a ton of reps and that will help in their development for the future of our program."
Â
One thing that has not been settled has been the quarterback competition, and fans will see both Kaleb Barker and Sawyer Smith in action Saturday. T-Day will feature a fun mix of live scrimmage action and a variety of different competitions that will include some lucky fans.
Â
T-Day also provides fans an opportunity to see some of the new faces that will be looking to take the next step in the fall.
Â
"I want to see the guys who have had standout springs so far show our fans in a game-like atmosphere the progress they've made. On offense, Austin Stidham, Traveon Samuel, Luke Whittemore, and on defense, Rasool Clemons, Tyler Murray, Jarvis Hayes, Terence Dunlap and Carlton Martial. They have prepared well in those 14 practices, but those are practice situations. I want to see them preform in a game situation."
Â
Fans will get the full gameday experience at The Vet on Saturday as the Sound of the South will be playing, the Troy cheerleaders will be on hand as will T-Roy. Additionally, fans will have an opportunity to experience the new video board in the North End Zone and can participate in a special select a seat for season tickets. Fans who purchase or renew their season tickets during T-Day will qualify for a replica Sun Belt Conference championship ring.
Â
Â
"I'm excited for our fans to see the progress on the new building," Brown said. "With the Sound of the South playing in the opposite corner and the sound bouncing off the facility, that building has changed the dynamics of the stadium so much."
