Women’s Tennis Advances to Semifinals in Sun Belt Tournament

PEACHTREE CITY, Georgia – No. 1 women's tennis defeated No. 9 Georgia Southern 4-2 Friday morning to advance to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Championships.
Troy (9-10) won the early doubles point as Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky breezed by Emilia Bujan and Ella Monsey on court one 6-2. The Eagles evened the match as Arianne de Winter and Paula Boixander earned a 6-3 win over Troy's Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina. All eyes turned to court three where freshmen pair Pei Ju Hsieh and Maria Casas Blas clinched the point with 6-3 victory over Georgia Southern.
Xue and Ohta took the first two matches on the singles courts, as Xue delivered a 6-2, 6-2 win. After dropping the first set, Ohta came back and picked up the win on court one 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 as Troy expanded its lead to 3-0.
Georgia Southern rallied back, taking the next two matches on courts four and six, putting the Eagles within one, down 3-2.
Herlina's match on court two was crucial, and the senior did not disappoint. Herlina battled after dropping the first set to take the next two sets and clinch the match for the Trojans. She defeated Emilia Bujan 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 as Troy survived and advanced in the Sun Belt Championship.
Troy will face No.4 South Alabama on Saturday at 9 a.m., in the semifinals. The match will be broadcast on ESPN3.
