Troy Signs Top JUCO Prospect Charles Norman

TROY, Ala. – Troy bolstered its roster with the signing of Shelton State Community College guard Charles Norman the team announced on Wednesday.

Norman was the highest leading scorer for the Buccaneers in 2017-18 at 16.1 points per game as he played in 30 of 32 games on the season while shooting 49.5 percent from the field, 43.5 percent from three with 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

The end of the season brought out the best in the Durham, N.C. native as he scored in double-digits in the final 12 games of the season. He was explosive in the season-ending loss to Coastal Alabama – North as he scored a season-high 35 points on 11 field goals.

That 35-point outing was the second time last year Norman scored 30 or more after he put up 31 against Ancilla College on Dec. 29. He scored double-digits in 24 of the 30 games he played in and 15 or more in 15 games.

Shelton State went 27-5 this past season and made it to the Alabama State Tournament semifinals. Norman was named to the Alabama All-State team for his accomplishments.

Barton Community College was where Norman began his collegiate career as he averaged 7.2 points while playing 20.3 minutes per game for the Cougars in the 2016-17 season.

As a Cougar, Norman started 22 games with 18 of those coming in conference play. Prior to his time at Barton, Norman played for Kestrel Heights in high school in his hometown of Durham, N.C.

Troy will have to replace some of the scoring lost from last season as Kevin Baker, Juan Davis, Jr. and Wesley Person have graduated from the program. Baker and Davis, Jr. combined for 86 starts in their careers while Person finished his career as the all-time leading scorer in Troy history and all-time leader in made 3-pointers in Sun Belt Conference history.

The Trojans knocked off South Alabama in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament for the program's fifth-consecutive win in the tournament before falling to eventual champion Georgia State in the quarterfinals.
