Troy Women Tied for Second Following Opening Round of Mimosa Hills

MORGANTON, N.C. – Sarah Harrison is tied for second place and Antonia Poate is tied for fifth as Troy is tied for second overall as a team following Sunday's opening round of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate at the Mimosa Hills Country Club.
Troy shot a 9-over 297 as a team which is good for its fifth-best round of the season. The Trojans are tied with Elon and the pair trail Wofford by just two shots heading into Monday's final round.
Harrison carded four birdies on the day with three coming before the turn as she hit the back of the course at 1-under. He card stretched to -2 before a pair of bogeys closed her even for the day. She trails Wofford's Nicole Chin by just three shots for the individual lead.
Poate, playing the round on her 22nd birthday, came within one shot of the best round in her Troy career as she carded a remarkable six birdies in the round with five coming after the turn. The Trojan junior was 6-over after eight holes but birdied the ninth before adding five more before hitting the clubhouse at 1-over for the day.
Bianca Lohbauer also turned in a strong back nine with a pair of birdies en route to carding a 3-over 73, good for a tie for 20th place. Lindsey Harrison added one birdie and shot 77 to sit tied for 28th, while Eva Fabricius-Bjerre is tied for 56th after shooting 8-over. Playing as an individual, Abby Parks shot 16-over and is tied for 83rd.
Troy will hit the course for Tuesday's shotgun start alongside Wofford and Elon at 8 a.m. (CT) beginning on holes one thru three; the Trojans are in search of their first victory of the season.
