Troy Set for Clash with Top-Seeded Little Rock

NEW ORLEANS – Top-seeded Little Rock awaits No. 4 Troy in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Basketball Tournament at Lakefront Arena on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Troy (18-12) was the only Sun Belt team to defeat Little Rock during the regular season and won the last meeting between the schools in the tournament, 61-60, in championship game in 2017. In the quarterfinal round on Thursday, Little Rock (21-9) destroyed Appalachian State 66-34 while Troy snuck past South Alabama, 82-79.

Five Trojans scored in double figures against South Alabama led by Harriet Winchester with 15 points. Troy was 28 of 30 from the free throw line, the most made free throws by the team in a game this season. Troy is now 27th in the nation and second in the Sun Belt with 450 made free throws.

Little Rock boasts the nation's sixth-best defense allowing just 52.3 points per game. Ronjanae DeGray leads the team averaging 13.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.

In the Feb. 10 meeting between the schools, Kayla Robinson scored 18 points including eight of the team's 12 in overtime. Troy trailed for just 12 seconds in the 76-70 victory and committed then-season-low 11 turnovers.

For the 11th consecutive season, top-seeded Little Rock women's basketball won its quarterfinals game at the Sun Belt Conference Championship as it defeated No. 9 Appalachian State 66-34 on Thursday afternoon at Lakefront Arena.

The Trojans (21-9) were led by senior Monique Townson put up a game-high 14 points with four steals, four assists and a team-leading seven rebounds. Yanina Inkina had 12 with two rebounds, and Tori Lasker tallied 11 points with four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Ronjanae DeGray was the fourth Trojan in double figures as she ended the game with 10 points, four rebounds and four steals. Little Rock shot 45.1 percent (23-for-51) from the field, 54.5 percent (6-for-11) from three and 70 percent (14-for-20) from the charity stripe.
