TROY, Alabama – The stage has been set for an electric Saturday night in the South. Troy and South Alabama, two in-state rivals separated by less than three hours, will meet on Oct. 3 in Veterans Memorial Stadium in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both schools.
To add to the excitement surrounding the game, the in-state showdown will be an official Blackout as Troy Athletics and Guardian Credit Union will hand out Blackout T-shirts to the first 10,000 fans in attendance. Additionally, the Trojans will debut their new black uniforms.
"This is an important game on many levels," Troy head coach Neal Brown said. "It is important because it's our first Sun Belt game, it is important because it's the next one and it is important because it's a rivalry game.
"We had an exciting atmosphere for our home opener and the Blackout is a great opportunity to unify our fan base and build on what we started two weeks ago against Charleston Southern. We need to build a wall around Veterans Memorial Stadium and it starts with our fans and their passion every weekend."
Tickets for the South Alabama game can be purchased online at TroyTrojans.com, by visiting the ticket office in the Tine Davis Fieldhouse or by calling 877-878-WINS. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and gates to Veterans Memorial Stadium will open at 4:30 p.m.
