Beverly-Kelley Named Mid-Major All-American
3/16/2015 12:50:00 PM | Basketball (W)
TROY, Alabama – Troy women's basketball junior Ashley Beverly-Kelley has been named to the Mid-Major All-America third team by CollegeSportsMadness.com.
Beverly-Kelley, on of Troy's two first team All-Sun Belt selections, led the Sun Belt in scoring in conference games as she averaged 19.7 points per game in league play. She ranks second in scoring overall at 17.7 points per game and has scored 20-plus points in eight of her last 12 games.
She scored a career-high 46 points in Troy's win at Georgia Southern, a mark that is still the most scored by any Division I player this season.
The junior also ranks ninth in the Sun Belt in assists (2.8 apg) and fifth in steals (2.3 spg), making her one of just two players to rank in the league's top 10 in scoring, assists and steals.
Beverly-Kelley scored her 1,000th career point early in the season and now has 1,302 career points, the 11th most in Troy's history and the fifth most in its Division I history. Her career 81.6 free throw percentage currently ranks first in Troy history.
She is the second Trojan to earn a second all-conference honor by her junior season, joining Angie Lowe who earned All-Gulf South honors three times, including the second time as a junior in 1988-89.
Beverly-Kelley has helped the Trojans to a 20-10 overall record, just the fourth 20-win season in the program's 40-year history.
Troy, hopeful for the second postseason berth in school history, now waits until Monday night when the 64-team WNIT tournament field and 16-team WBI tournament field are announced. The two tournaments will make their selections following the NCAA Tournament selection show.
News of any postseason berth will be posted to TroyTrojans.com and all of Troy's social media outlets on Monday night. Fans can find Troy on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat by searching for Troy Athletics.
