HOUSTON – Troy senior offensive lineman Terrence Jones and junior defensive end Tyler Roberts have been named to the 2014 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, the Rotary Club of Houston announced Monday.
Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
Jones, who will represent Troy at next week's Sun Belt Media Day, graded out at over 87 percent last season and finished with 17 knockdown blocks. Troy led the Sun Belt Conference in total offense (463.3), passing offense (322.3) and scoring offense (34.1). A first team All-Sun Belt selection, Jones led an offensive line that finished second in the Sun Belt and 35th nationally with only 19 sacks allowed; Troy led the league by allowing a sack once every 25.4 pass attempts.
Roberts, who was a second team All-Sun Belt selection last year, finished sixth in the Sun Belt and led the Trojans with 5.5 sacks and was 13th with 8.5 tackles for loss. The Hoover, Ala., native was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after recording three tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and seven tackles at Louisiana-Lafayette. Roberts finished the season tied for second in the Sun Belt with three forced fumbles.
