Troy Lands Three on ABCA South Central All-Region Team

TROY, Ala. – Troy outfielder Danny Collins and third baseman Logan Pierce were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) South Central All-Region First Team and shortstop Tyler Vaughn was a second team selection, the ABCA announced this weekend.
Collins, who will forgo his senior year at Troy after signing a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, was named to the Louisville Slugger and NCBWA All-America First Teams and to the Perfect Game and Baseball America All-America Third Teams.
The Niceville, Fla., native was a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. Collins hit .360 with 25 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 68 RBIs, a .631 slugging percentage, a .452 on-base percentage and a 1.083 OPS.
He ranks sixth in the country in doubles, eighth in RBIs and 18th in total bases as the final eight teams head to the College World Series. Collins also ranks among the top 100 in the NCAA in batting average, runs, hits, home runs and slugging percentage.
Over his two seasons with the Trojans, Collins accumulated 42 doubles, 23 home runs and 120 RBIs. He will begin his professional career with the Jamestown Jammers.
Pierce, who was a Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team selection, finished the season leading the Trojans with a .364 batting average, a .467 on-base percentage and 46 walks. The Troy, Ala., native added 24 doubles, eight home runs and 63 RBIs from the two hole in the lineup.
His walk total ranks 21st nationally while his on-base percentage ranks 40th and his 24 doubles are the 11th most in the NCAA. Pierce finishes his career tied for first in Troy history with 125 career walks while ranking second with 55 career doubles, third with 213 career hits and fifth with 153 career RBIs.
Pierce became the first Troy player to be drafted by Philadelphia when the Phillies selected him with their 15th round selection. Pierce has signed his contract and will open his professional career with the Williamsport Crosscutters.
Vaughn was a first team All-Sun Belt selection at shortstop for the Trojans and finished his junior campaign batting at a .327 clip with 20 doubles, a triple, 26 RBIs and a .401 on-base percentage. The Murphy, N.C., native committed just five errors all season long and finished the year with a .982 fielding percentage.
He was also named a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, which is presented annually to the top college shortstop.
Vaughn, who started all 62 of Troy's games, was named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team and ranks second in the NCAA with 72 runs scored. Troy's leadoff hitter led the club with 26 multi-hit games and is currently the second toughest player in the country to strikeout. Vaughn struck out just 10 times in 257 at-bats this past season.
