ITA National Doubles Rankings (April 9)
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its national rankings on Tuesday, with a pair of Trojans finding themselves among the nation's elite doubles pairs.
Troy's duo of freshman Anja Cosovic and sophomore Candela Munoz Giron are ranked No.90 on this week's list, marking the first career appearance for the pair and the first appearance for any Trojans in this season's national rankings.
Cosovic and Munoz Giron began playing together on February 17 at UAB, a match that marks Troy's last loss as the Trojans are in the midst of a 12-match winning streak, the third longest active streak in the nation.
Despite the team loss, Cosovic and Munoz Giron won their doubles match against UAB and have been perfect ever since, posting an 11-0 mark as a pair on the season. Six of their 11 wins have come by scores of either 8-0 or 8-1.
The national ranking is not a first for the Trojans. Karoline Grymel and Lyubov Dorofeeva, both still with the Trojans, were ranked No.89 last season in the April 10 rankings.
Cosovic and Munoz Giron are one of just two Sun Belt duos ranked this week, joining Georgia State's Abigail Tere-Apisah and Masa Grgan who are ranked 33rd.
Cosovic, Munoz Giron and the rest of the Trojans return to the court this weekend when they travel to Denton, Texas, to take on No.74 North Texas on Friday and Middle Tennessee on Saturday in the final two matches of the regular season.
The Sun Belt Championships begin on Thursday, April 18, in Lafayette, La., with the winner earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
