MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team put up a solid defensive effort, but it wasn't enough as the Trojans fell to the hot-shooting South Alabama Jaguars, 74-58, on Wednesday afternoon at the Mitchell Center.
The Jaguars finished at 29-of-56 (52 percent) from the floor, as Troy (4-18, 1-12) shot 34 percent (20-of-58) in the loss. A crowd of 3,487 saw the action, mostly elementary school children, as South Alabama offered free admission to the game.

South Alabama (13-10, 6-8) ended with 38 points in the paint, many thanks to Wright's 16 in the post. Troy won the points off turnovers battle with 25 as the Trojans forced 23 South Alabama turnovers, despite the Jaguars averaging just 16 per game.
Troy was outrebounded by the Jaguars, 38-30, which was a direct result of Troy's 34 percent shooting.
South Alabama shot 14-of-27 in the first half, making 52 percent of its shots, as the Trojans struggled to find the basket making 8-of-28 shots (28 percent). The Jaguars converted on six 3-pointers in the first half to help race out to a 39-21 lead at the break.
Troy increased its defensive pressure in the second half, and actually outscored the Jaguars 37-35 in the final frame.
The Trojans will hit the court again this Sunday as they travel to take on Middle Tennessee for a 2 p.m. tip.
