2013 Stats | Four Troy Players Selected to Play in Medal of Honor Bowl
NEW ORELANS – Led by four first team selections, Troy had 10 players selected to 11 positions on the All-Sun Belt Conference that was released Wednesday by the league office. The all-conference teams are selected by the Sun Belt head coaches and select media members.
Terrence Jones (OL), Camren Hudson (DB), Corey Robinson (QB) and Eric Thomas (WR) were all named to the All-Sun Belt First Team from Troy. The Trojans have now had a Sun Belt best 45 players named to the All-Sun Belt First Team since joining the league in 2004.
Evan McKissack (OL), Antonio Gillespie (DL), Tyler Roberts (DL) and Will Scott were named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team; Scott was selected as the second team punter and place kicker. Jordan Chunn (RB) and Bryan Holmes (WR) were honorable mention selections.
Jones, who was a Preseason All-Sun Belt selection, graded out at over 87 percent on the season for the Trojans and finished with 17 knockdown blocks. The junior from Huntsville, Ala., was part of an offensive line that helped Troy lead the Sun Belt with 463.3 yards of total offense per game.
Hudson finished the season 11th in the Sun Belt overall and second among defensive backs with 6.8 tackles per game. The senior from Tallahassee, Fla., was fifth in the league with 61 solo tackles and was eighth with nine passes defended. Hudson was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week following the final game of the season and returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown at Louisiana-Lafayette.
Robinson ends his Troy career with his name on the top line of 11 Sun Belt and Troy career records. Among his accolades, the Paducah, Ky., native is the career record holder in touchdown passes, passing yards, passing attempts, completions and total offense at both Troy and in the Sun Belt.
He is one of just four players in NCAA history to throw for over 3,000 yards and record over 3,000 yards of total offense in four different seasons. Robinson ranks ninth all-time in NCAA history with 13,477 career passing yards and sixth all-time with 1,179 completions. Robinson completed 67.7 percent of his passes this season for 3,219 yards and 20 touchdowns; he set the NCAA single-game record for completion percentage (30 attempts) after he completed 30-of-32 passes against UAB.
One of Robinson's favorite targets over the past four years has been Thomas who is the Sun Belt's career leader with 28 touchdown receptions. The Shreveport, La., native held the nation's longest streak of consecutive games with a touchdown as his mark reached eight earlier in the year. Thomas finished the season 10th in the NCAA with 12 touchdown receptions and came up just seven yards shy of 1,000 receiving yards.
Thomas finished his Troy career ranked third all-time in school history with 197 receptions, third with 2,655 career receiving yards and second with his 28 touchdown receptions. His totals are good for fifth all-time in Sun Belt history in catches and fourth in receiving yards.
McKissack was the highest graded offensive linemen for the Trojans and was charged with just 0.2 sacks allowed on the season. The Hoover, Ala., native recorded 27.5 knockdown blocks and graded out at over 90 percent in five games. The 5-foot-10, 256 pound senior held his own against ACC runner-up Duke as he graded out at 93 percent.
Gillespie, a native of Tulsa, Okla., recorded 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks for the Trojans from the interior of the defensive line. The senior's sack total ranked eighth in the Sun Belt and his TFL total was 19th in the league. Gillespie finished eighth in the Sun Belt among defensive linemen with 44 tackles.
Roberts finished sixth in the Sun Belt and led the Trojans with 5.5 sacks and was 13th with 8.5 tackles for loss. The Hoover, Ala., native was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after recording three tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and seven tackles at Louisiana-Lafayette. Roberts, a sophomore, finished the season tied for second in the Sun Belt with three forced fumbles.
Scott was one of just three players in the NCAA to be named to both the Ray Guy and Lou Groza Award watch lists. The Lucedale, Miss., native was one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award for the nation's top punter and the only from a non-AQ conference. Scott finished his career as Troy's career punting leader with a 42.81 average and he set the single-season record as he averaged 44.5 yards per punt this season.
Scott finished second in the league in punting average, but led the Sun Belt in net punting thanks to seven fewer touchbacks than ULM's Justin Manton who was selected to the first team over Scott.
He finished his career sixth all-time in Troy history in made field goals after he connected on 11-of-15 this season. Scott broke his own school record when he made a 53-yard field goal at Louisiana-Lafayette.
Chunn set the Troy freshmen rushing touchdown record as he found the end zone a remarkable 14 times. The true freshman from Huntsville, Ala., led all freshmen running backs in the NCAA with his rushing touchdown total and his 14 scores rank as the third most in a single-season in Troy history.
Holmes established himself as one of the top big-play threats in the entire country. The sophomore from Lake Butler, Fla., ranks third nationally with five catches of 50 yards or longer and led the Sun Belt in grabs of over 40 yards and over 50 yards. Holmes finished fourth in the league with seven touchdown receptions and second averaging 16.9 yards per catch.
The Trojans finished the season 6-6 overall and reached bowl eligibility for the sixth time in the past eight seasons.
