Second-half Woes Hurt Troy Against UALR

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team held a halftime advantage over Sun Belt West Division leader UALR, but Troy scored just 17 points in the second half and fell, 71-50, at Trojan Arena on Saturday night.
Troy (3-11, 0-5) led at the half, 33-32, but shot just 18.2 percent (6-of-33) in the second frame while UALR shot 46.9 percent (15-of-32) and used two separate double-digit runs to build the final lead.
Ashley Beverly-Kelley scored a team-high 11 points for Troy while Kourtney Coleman was also in double figures with 10. Brooke Bowie pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Troy opened the game on fire, taking an 11-4 lead as the home Trojans made six of their first 10 shots in the game. Troy led for nearly the entire first half as UALR took a brief one-point for just 20 seconds midway through the frame.
In fact, Troy led by six with just two minutes before halftime, but UALR scored eight down the stretch to get within one at the break, 33-32.
UALR (11-3, 4-2) was led on the night by Morgan Bolton and Taylor Gault who each scored 10 off the bench for the Trojans. Eight of Bolton's 10 points came early in the second half as part of a 9-0 run that put UALR ahead 47-40.
The visiting Trojans never looked back and used a 12-0 run just minutes later to extend the lead to 15 before it ballooned in the late stages to 21 points.
UALR outrebounded Troy 49-39, despite Troy holding a 20-17 advantage at halftime. Troy forced 22 UALR turnovers, despite the West Division leaders coming in averaging just under 16 giveaways a game. Troy had 25 turnovers with UALR scoring 21 points off of them.
Troy returns to the court on Thursday for a special, 12 noon tip time against ULM at Trojan Arena. The game will be televised regionally on the Sun Belt Network and nationally on ESPN3.
