Troy Falls at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Troy men's basketball team couldn't stop Arkansas State from deep in the second half as they fell to the Red Wolves,83-59, on the road Thursday night.
The Trojans trailed by just nine at the half, but ASU was 8-of-14 (57.1 percent) from 3-point land in the second half as they built the final cushion.
Troy (8-16, 3-10) was led by Steven Cunningham with 14 while Ray Chambers was also in double figures with 10. Troy shot just 5-of-16 from deep in the game but made 48.0 percent (24-of-50) overall.
Turnovers trumped the good shooting as Troy coughed it up 14 times compared to just seven by Arkansas State. The Red Wolves outscored the Trojans 17-2 in points off turnovers.
Arkansas State (11-17, 5-8) was led by Trey Finn with 20 points thanks to 6-of-9 from deep. Ed Townsel was 4-of-6 from deep with 14 points. Malcoln Kirkland (14) and Marcus Hooten (10) were also in double-figures for ASU.
The Trojans return home on Saturday when they host UALR in the final game ever at Sartain Hall. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by the Troy women taking on UALR at 5:15 p.m.

ARKANSAS STATE 83, TROY 59
The two sides were even early as Troy trailed 14-13 with 11:21 to go when R.J. Scott hit Troy's first 3-pointer of the game, however, that is when the Trojans would go cold.
Troy went scoreless for 5:30 as ASU went on a 10-0 run to build a 24-13 lead. An Emil Jones bucket at the 5:49 mark ended the scoreless drought and got Troy within nine at 24-15. ASU seemed poised to push the lead back to 11 when Steven Cunningham picked up a block on a Red Wolves fast break and Troy converted the ensuing possession into three points thanks to a Will Weathers 3-pointer to cut it to six at 24-18.
The Trojans would get just one more field goal in the half, however, as the Red Wolves built a 35-26 halftime lead.
The Trojans shot 40.0 percent (10-of-25) in the first half, but turned the ball over nine times as ASU converted 12 points off of turnovers and Troy converted none off of four ASU turnovers.
The Trojans opened the second half by making their first five shots but were only able to cut the lead to eight at 46-38 after two Weathers free throws with 14:15 to go. At that point, ASU scored five straight to take their biggest lead of the game at to that point, 51-38.
ASU built the lead to 15 at 53-38 before Scott hit another triple to cut it to 53-41. However, ASU got hot from deep as they built a 20-point lead, 63-43, with 8:14 to go on 5-of-9 shooting from deep.
The sharp shooting continued by the Red Wolves as they finished the half 8-of-14 from deep and defeated the Trojans 83-59.
