TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The Troy Trojans men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2012 South Regional Cross Country Championship, Friday, as the Trojans took seven athletes to compete at the Apalachee Regional Park.
“I was happy with today's outcome,” said cross country coach Jeff Jenkins. “We ran very well against some familiar competition and some eyes were opened to how good we can be.”
Juniors Enock Kirui and Kemper Morton picked up two top-100 finishes for the Troy men's team in the 10K race that consisted of a field of 177 runners. Kirui finished 62nd with a time of 32:21.9, while Morton had a time of 33:03.7, finishing 94th.
“Almost every girl set two personal bests today: one in the 5K and one in the 6K. The men were difficult to judge since we haven't raced a 10K all season, but based off of other markers, they ran well,” Jenkins said.
The Trojan women competed alongside 205 runners in the 6K race. All five runners helped the Trojans to a 27th team finish.
Freshman Julia Ostendorf finished 89th, setting a personal best time of 21:56.9. Senior Morgan Paulson recorded a new personal
best in her final competition with a time of 22:46.1 finishing 134th.
Junior Haley Davies continued the trend of setting personal bests as the junior finished with a personal best of 23:34.7. Sophomore Robin Blackmon recorded a personal best of 26:01.6 while sophomore Anna Claire Scarlett ran a personal best time
of 26:23.9.
“I think the experience at the big meet goes a long way for the future of our program. We have done so much this season, but there isn't much time for reflection,” said Jenkins. “We are looking to add even more success in the indoor and outdoor seasons coming up.”
